Mom: Her older sister, Gail? Gail. Was she the only other
Tim: child? Jordan, Martha and Herbie had Gail and Eileen. I thought there was another one,
Mom: no? Yes. What was her name? Sharon. Sharon. Troublemaker. Really? Mm
Tim: hmm. She was the oldest? Middle. Middle? They had dark hair, that's all I can remember.
Mom: I don't know whether it was drugs. I think.
Tim: Really? In the early 60s? Mm hmm. A little girl, a girl from the village of Lewiston getting in trouble like that? Yep. Did it make them sad and unhappy?
Mom: Yes. Dad picked her up one time over at, uh, Jay's drugstore.
Tim: She couldn't get home? I don't remember.
Mom: But.
Tim: What'd he do with her? Take her to their house? Yes. There weren't any rehabs, much rehab or anything in those days. Betty Ford wasn't around. She'd be, uh, pushing 80 years old.
Mom: Mm hmm. She died young. Oh, did she? I think so.
Tim: Hmm. Did she get married? I think she did. And about
Mom: Gail? Oh, she married a boyfriend from here.
He worked at the airlines and moved to Chicago. He worked at O'Hare, I think.
Tim: Oh, good. Did Martha and Herbie live into their 80s? They didn't, did they? Either one of them. Do you remember?
Mom: Oh, I think Martha did. Did she? Definitely. Did she live at... She and Aunt Ethel became closer friends... I didn't know that
...than with me. No,
Tim: you were busy. I had work
Mom: and stuff, but Aunt Ethel was home.
Tim: Did Martha drive? Oh, yes. Okay, so Ethel and her would... Right. Oh, that's good. I didn't know that.
Mom: But Martha... Became dementia or Alzheimer's. Ah.
Tim: Yes. Remember in our family we had a thing of like Martha Says? You used to quote Martha as the Martha Stewart or the Oracle of Lewiston.
The wisdom. It was a handy little thing to say. It wasn't your idea necessarily, it was Martha says do this.
Mom: I always repeated what Martha said.
Oh, I ate that all up. Is it good? Yes.
