Episode 6 -Adding On

Tim: Do you remember when, uh, you, you and dad added on, you didn't add the, the kitchen got expanded before you put on the bedrooms and the living room, right?

Mom: Before Kevin was born. Oh, really? Mm hmm. Fifty three.

Tim: So, did the house end just behind you, right? Uh huh. Was this part of a porch, or was there no? Yes.

This was part of the porch,

Mom: so they had to build it. George Fields. Built the steps.

Tim: And who didn't, uh, who was...

Mom: The porch went the whole length.

Tim: I see. Was the door in the same place?

Mom: It wasn't a porch, it was a... Like a patio?

A junk room. Lawnmowers. We didn't have a shed, you know.

Tim: But that was the only way in and out of the back.

Mom: Yeah. And it was... A catch all. Dad slept out there sometimes.

Tim: In the hot heat? Yeah. Was the uh, then it was six years later, 59 when you added on.

Mom: But that didn't work out too well.

Tim: Well, all it did was extend the kitchen, right? Bathroom stayed in the same place.

Wasn't it? Arnie Becker did that work in 59, right?

Mom: Yes. George Fields did the kitchens.

Tim: In 59 also? No, 53. Wasn't there a, a, uh, Martin who did something?

Mom: Maybe it was Andy Martin. He did the cupboards.

Tim: He made the, did he make the Lazy Susan? Mm hmm. What a craftsman. He was. Was he? Was Bucky Martin his son?

Mom: Yes. I don't know what it is.

They had a bunch of sons and daughters, I think.

Tim: Bucky was like a tough guy, like a Jimmy Dean or, not Jimmy Dean, but he was one of those 50 guys with a t shirt with the Lucky Strikes rolled into the sleeve, as I recall.

Mom: Always in trouble.

Tim: Right. Did you move out when Colleen was born, while this was getting finished?

Did you like go to Martha's or something?

Mom: When I left the hospital, I went to Martha's.

Tim: Why, was construction still going on? Terrible. Was it torn up?

Mom: No picture window. The big black tarp over there.

Tim: How long was it before you came back? A week. Oh, that's not bad. They must have rushed to get it done.
